Project Overview
Design and build a low voltage containerised low voltage switchroom; design and build a distributed PLC / SCADA control system to control the new plug flow AD digesters; design and install the power and control cabling / infrastructure; design and install the process instrumentation. Test and commission the system.
What We Delivered
The new AD system incorporated two high solids digesters and feeder system provided by others, with two in-house designed plug flow digesters, bio-methane upgrading, CO2 liquefaction and gas injection direct to the grid.
The project required 2x 1.5MW CHP’s with a 500kW load bank for system stability, as no grid power was available, the CHP’s were connected together in the LV switchboard and used to provide power distributed to site.
We designed and built a containerised switchroom with 3200A LV switchboard and main PLC control panel. We designed and installed the power / control site cabling and infrastructure. 6x remote control panels were built and installed to provide local connections to valves and instruments.
Many of the site instruments and valves were contained within the ATEX areas of the plug flow digesters, we provided an ATEX design and installation package to comply with BS EN 60079.
The new control system, utilised the latest network technology from Scheider and SMC to control the process equipment, valves, pumps and instruments. The main control system panel and switchboard were incorporated into a modified shipping container at our Pewsey unit and shipped to site for connection to site equipment, saving time onsite. Rear access gland plates were used to hide the cables from being seen within the container.
